MASTOPEXY (BREAST LIFT)

A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, can be a great solution for women who want to reverse the effects aging has had on their breasts. A mastopexy will raise the breasts and reposition the nipples, and the areolae (pigmented skin around the nipples) may be reduced in size.

At Bayview Plastic Surgery, we strive to provide our patients with excellent care and personalized results that fully satisfy their aesthetic needs. Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth have the expertise needed to perform your breast lift.

HOW AGING AND SAGGING AFFECT THE BREASTS

Aging women begin to lose some elasticity in their skin over time. This change in skin composition may cause some women to notice a few changes in the appearance of their breasts and other parts of their body. The changes may be subtle at first, but over time, they will intensify before you know it.

Women with smaller breasts may not notice a significant difference in their breast height, but women with larger breasts will certainly notice when their breasts begin to droop and change in shape. Breast sagging can be concerning for women because it alters their womanly figure and can lead to a decrease in confidence and sense of femininity.

Breast sagging can also affect younger women as a result of pregnancy and breast feeding. Once the child is born and breast feeding has ceased, the breasts can take on a flatter appearance and may hang lower on the chest.

Women with sagging breasts may also begin to hide their appearance behind clothes that conceal their figure. While sagging breasts may seem like the end of the world, there is a solution with plastic surgery.

WHAT IS A BREAST LIFT?

The breast lift resects excess skin and tightens the skin envelope, and also repositions the nipple. The results of the breasts lift procedure include more voluptuous contours around your breasts and a more youthful appearance.

Breast implants can also be inserted if increased volume is desired. This combination procedure is known as an augmentation mastopexy.

Breast lift surgery should only be performed once all breast development has stopped. It is also recommended to wait until all child-bearing is completed before a mastopexy is performed as additional pregnancies can jeopardize your results.

Mastopexy surgery is an outpatient procedure and general anesthesia is used for the surgery. The actual surgical time will vary based on the amount of surgery necessary for each patient. Breast lift surgery generally takes about 2 hours.

IDEAL BREAST LIFT CANDIDATES

Revision Breast Augmentation HoustonA breast lift may be required for more than just aging women. If you have just given birth, lost a lot of weight quickly from a new diet plan, or simply are displeased with the limp appearance of your breasts, you should consider a breast lift. A mastopexy is an exceptional method of breast enhancement for women whose breasts aren’t as perky as they would like them to be.

The best candidates are women who are in good physical and mental health and want to fix their sagging breasts. Candidates should not be pregnant or planning on getting pregnant, as the results could easily be reversed after giving birth.

If you are pregnant or are planning on it, you should wait until after having children to consider a mastopexy. Waiting will allow you to enjoy the results for a longer period of time.

It’s important to also have realistic expectations about the results of the procedure. Every woman is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Your results will be personalized to suit your aesthetic needs and should look spectacular.

BENEFITS OF A BREAST LIFT

A breast lift can give a patient’s figure a significant boost in attractiveness and give it a more feminine appearance. Their breasts will look perkier and more aesthetically pleasing.

The patient can feel happier in their own skin and more confident, and they’ll be able to wear the clothes they’ve always wanted to. They won’t feel the need to hide anymore and can show off their figure without feeling self-conscious about the shape of their breasts.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SURGERY

After surgery a special dressing is applied which will stay on until the next morning. Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth see patients the next day at our Houston office. Patients may have pain and nausea for 24 hours after surgery. Prescription for pain medication can be provided.

After this initial post-operative visit, patients wear a soft cotton jogging bra or runner bra. They may take a shower after 48 hours. Normal activities can be resumed immediately, and light exercise (walking) may be resumed after 2 weeks.

Patients must remember that before they see the improvement and results they are expecting, they will go through a standard post-operative period of swelling and bruising. Patient’s breasts will feel hard and may be tender to the touch, but these issues should resolve in 2-3 weeks.

Recovery is a normal part of the process, and with our guidance you’ll be back to doing all of your normal day-to-day activities in no time at all. We will help you every step of the way by giving you the best education and care to make you as comfortable as possible.

Stitch removal begins 10-14 days after surgery. Removing stitches is quick, and uncomplicated.

Post-operative pictures will be taken at 1 year. Patients should remember to continue to perform self-breast exams and to have routine mammograms.
